A dedicated and experienced team of trustees deliver the vision and leadership necessary to steer the W W Winter Heritage Trust safely through its third century.
Members and volunteers from diverse backgrounds and skillsets contribute more than £20,000 of ‘in kind’ benefit each year to the project through cataloguing, research and digitisation of Winter’s immense photographic archive.

![]() | Philip Ranjit Basi | Philip is a multi-award-winning Series Producer/Director with over forty years’ experience across documentary, factual, music, arts, and entertainment. His career includes extensive work for both ITV and the BBC, contributing to thousands of hours of broadcast television seen worldwide. Alongside his industry practice, Philip has spent more than a decade teaching at the University of Derby, holding senior roles across undergraduate and postgraduate media programmes. He remains active in the industry while supporting civic and community projects, particularly those enabling underrepresented groups in Derby to tell the city’s diverse stories through digital media. Born and raised in Derby, Philip has strong personal links to Winter’s Photography Studio. He later produced Winter’s Wonderland, a documentary exploring his father’s arrival in Derby in 1954 and the studio’s significance within the city’s South Asian diaspora, celebrating community, heritage, and belonging. |
![]() | Peter Bonnell | Peter has 22 years’ experience as a curator, project manager and senior leader. He is Executive Director at disability arts organisation DASH; he was diagnosed with autism in 2021. He was Director of FORMAT Photography Festival/ Programme Manager at QUAD from 2022 – 2025, and Senior Curator at QUAD from 2012 – 2022. For FORMAT25 Peter developed the theme ‘Conflicted’ that featured works from the WW Winter archive. He collaborated with the Winter’s team on numerous previous projects. Peter was Curator at ArtSway from 2004 – 2011. In the late 1990s he trained in the US as a visual artist. In 2025 he rekindled his practice as a photographer. |
![]() | Gully Chungh, Treasurer | Being a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants, Gully has over 20 years’ experience as a senior finance professional, gained across many commercial sectors. Having moved to Derby from Huddersfield in 1999, Gully’s first interaction with W W Winters was when he and his family had their photographs taken in December 2024. Intrigued by the fascinating history of W W Winters, he hopes his relevant expertise can contribute to the Trust’s future journey in what is his first role as a Trustee. |
![]() | Peter Jordan-Turner | Peter is a university lecturer in photography with strong family roots in Derbyshire. He is completing a PhD at the University of Derby, researching the social value of photographic archives. He supports the development of ties with higher education collaborators, with a focus on education, heritage engagement, research and sustaining community access to visual history. |
![]() | Ian Shaw | Ian joined WW Winter as a volunteer in early 2024 and graduated in the same year with a BA (Hons) in Photography from the University for the Creative Arts. A former professional wedding photographer, he is an Associate of the Royal Photographic Society (ARPS) and has also contributed to the wider photographic community through roles such as invigilating at Derby’s FORMAT International Photography Festival. Alongside his creative practice, Ian brings substantial experience in IT infrastructure, project delivery, and web design, offering a blend of technical and organisational expertise to support the Trust’s strategic goals. |
![]() | Simon Vaughan | Simon comes from a library management background. He obtained his degree at the University of Derby, then taught for two years at De Montfort University. Since 1992 he has been Archivist at the Alexandra Palace Television Society. Simon became involved with W W Winter in 2021 by cleaning glass plate negatives. His role has increased by taking on the role of all things heritage and volunteer co-ordinator. |
![]() | Jonathan Wallis, Chair | Jonathan is a museum professional with over 30 years’ experience of working in a variety of museums. He left his position as Head of Museums at Derby Museums in 2018 to become a regional Cultural Heritage Curator for the National Trust in North Yorkshire, Teesside and County Durham. He has a particular interest in photographic history. |
![]() | Vicky Washington | Vicky comes from an arts and heritage background, and brings extensive experience in collaborative project management and arts marketing. Currently working with Derby-based Animate Projects, Vicky was previously Head of Marketing/Comms with Derby Museums and helped to launch the Museum of Making in 2021. With an academic background in Fine Art and Museum Studies, and a passion for photography and visual storytelling, Vicky is a skilled collaborative communicator who is committed to creating engaging and inclusive cultural experiences. |
![]() | Luke Williams | Luke Williams is a Midlands based artist and photographer specialising in the analogue process. Having earned both a BA (Hons) and a Masters in Film and Photography from The University of Derby between 2016 and 2021. Luke’s work frequently engages with documentary photography and portraiture, exploring facets of contemporary British experience and environment, as evidenced by his work. A core interest in Luke’s conceptual approach is the photographic archive – how images are collected, preserved, and reinterpret history and memory. This interest informs his photographic studies by providing a contextual framework for recording the present. |
![]() | Michael Young | After a 25 year career in engineering, Mick Young worked as a management consultant and director of a property company. He is a trustee of two other charities, one of which – The 78 Derngate, Northampton Trust – he has chaired for ten years. He is also a former council leader with interests in education and the arts. |
