On Thursday 16th April 2026 W. W. Winter Heritage Trust were pleased to be able to welcome Ms Nadine Peatfield, Derby City Council leader Nadine Peatfield, who is also cabinet member for city centre, regeneration, strategy and policy.
Trustee Simon Vaughan and volunteer Joanna Neal toured the building with Ms Peatfield explaining the workings of the original daylight studio, showed her some of our amazing examples of hand-coloured images, which were on display in the studio.
Ms Peatfield viewed the waiting room, complete with its original fireplace and overmantel mirror, as well as the original second-class waiting room, which is now home to a collection of domestic cameras from across the decades.
In the retouching room, on the second floor of the building, Ms Peatfield was shown how glass plate negatives were retouched to remove wrinkles, reshape jawlines and generally improve the image. Early examples of air brushing were also on display.
Ms Peatfield gave her full support for our Heritage Lottery Fund application and our future fundraising proposals.
The W. W. Winter Heritage Trust was launched in 2018, to promote the photographic history of the company and ensure its archive is conserved and made available for future generations, through education, events, activities, projects and research.
